About the opportunity

In Berlin, Barcelona or Vienna, we are looking for a Web Tech Lead to be responsible for the Core segment of work. This role lives at the intersection of frontend and fullstack, and requires the will to work in a team built around empathy and respect.

At scale, the Core segment is responsible for the infrastructure and processes powering N26 products. As a lead in that segment, you will be looking after the web platform and system, working directly with web engineers towards bettering ways of working and efficiency.

Therefore, you should have a broad range of skills and interests. At the core (no pun intended), this is about delivering high quality web services to N26 customers and prospects, so it is important to have strong fundamentals and appreciation for frontend development.

However due to the nature of the Core segment, a non-trivial part of the role will be working on CI / CD integration & testing, server-side rendering, caching, not to mention the Apollo GraphQL API and the web design system so there is need for some desire to work in a more fullstack spectrum so to say.

In this role, you will :

  • Work in the Core segment towards bettering the N26 web platform, most specifically its testing strategy, release efficiency, and dependency usage.
  • Make sure web engineers get to do their best work without being hindered by technical decisions and implementation.
  • Ensure the web mono-repo remains healthy and void of long-standing tech debt by managing dependencies and planning large-scale refactoring that will impact all teams.
  • Uphold and be a driving-force for existing high quality standards such as accessibility, security, testing and documentation.
  • Work on the setup of the web design system so it keeps scaling as it grows, while serving the needs of web engineers relying on it to build new features.
  • Maintain and improve the GraphQL API and its Apollo driver to keep it scalable and performant.
  • Improve observability and monitoring to make sure we have all the metrics we need to guarantee the health and stability of web services.
  • What you need to be successful :

    Background :

  • At least a few years of experience with frontend development as the role involves working with frontend developers on a frontend platform to deliver customer-facing interfaces.
  • Experience with frontend tooling such as bundling, automated testing, CI / CD, dependency management and monitoring.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills as it involves working with all other web engineers across the company, and documenting a lot of the work.
  • Experience working in agile environments.
  • Skills :

  • Robust knowledge of web fundamentals, including accessibility, basic security, and performance.
  • Some experience with Node and web service APIs, ideally both REST and GraphQL.
  • Knowledge of frontend tooling such as bundling, deploying, testing and monitoring.
