We have an excellent opportunity for a Laboratory Supervisor to join the S·O·S SM Services Laboratory team at the Caterpillar Malaga Demonstration & Learning Center.

  • S Service’s needs.

    This position is responsible for providing daily direction and supervising the S·O·S SM Services’ daily laboratory operation.

    The Laboratory Supervisor position may become involved with daily sample processing, sample interpretation, billing, development projects and ISO 9001 initiatives.

    The Laboratory Supervisor responsibilities may also include other job assignments as part of the individual’s Caterpillar Inc.

    job classification. This will likely include activities such as quarterly and yearly performance reviews. The incumbent directs a staff comprised of scientists and technical personnel.

    Schedules workload to expedite work, to maintain an efficient flow of work in the lab operation. Provides leadership to the team to meet the expectations of customers and the goals of the organization.

    Incumbent creates goals, plans and values to improve the team, quality, velocity and cost of the operation. Monitors process capability of the instruments in the laboratory.

    Manages the PM of the instruments. Provides leadership for troubleshooting and repairs of laboratory equipment.

    Maintains material inventory and orders material and supplies for uninterrupted performance of the lab operation. Uses skills and experience in problem solving to install new capital laboratory equipment and works with facility engineering to facilitate the installation.

    Ensures proper supervision and direction of team and develops, trains and motivates staff capable of performing the laboratory work.

    Adheres to established ISO standards, policies and practices and relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, hazardous materials, ergonomics, affirmative action, etc.

    The position supervises or manages a work unit of primarily management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required.

    The position is responsible for expense budgets, capital forecasts and expenditures, and all personnel issues in the area including performance evaluations of subordinates.

    The position often confronts complex issues and problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches.

    The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The position impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Delivery Timeliness, Equipment Accuracy, Operational Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Capability, and ISO 9001.


  • Requires a university degree in an Chemistry, Physics of engineering, and at least three to four years laboratory experience.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of the SOS Services program.
  • Analytical ability as well as communication skills are essential.
  • Laboratory skills, Computer skills, Organizational and planning skills, and interpersonal skills, and willingness to operate in a team environment
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
