For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-
new cars or derivatives during this period.
You will join as the Principal Engineer of the driveability calibration team, who are all based on site in a brand new and purpose-
built facility in Idiada, Spain. Reporting to the department manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of the driveability attributes across different McLaren applications.
On the top of that, you will have to manage a driveability team which consists of two Engine Engineers and a Transmission Engineer with an additional Engineer working in support from the University.
You will also set the roadmap for the future programs.
Principal Accountabilities :
Lead and manage a driveability team based in Idiada, developing the team member’s skills and experience.
Set the driveability attribute targets in line with the company directions.
Deliver the driveability calibrations in line with the attribute targets.
Organise and plan the DVP across different McLaren applications.
Lead the development of engine and gearbox driveability calibrations.
Lead the engine and gearbox software development and debugging.
Lead and define the development of the software interface between engine and gearbox.
Support other department areas within the Electronic and Control department, Powertrain and Vehicle development.
Attend over-seas test trips to support development activities.
Essential Skills and Experience :
Team Leadership experience within the automotive industry or similar domain
Strong passion for automotive design and development
Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electronics, Physics, Engineering, or an equivalent education.
Extensive industry experience related to internal combustion engine or powertrain development.
Good level comprehension of control strategies for gasoline combustion engine and / or hybrids systems and / or transmissions.
Extensive knowledge and competences in terms of calibration activities and processes.
Good level of knowledge of the MathWorks tools like Matlab and Simulink.
Good level of knowledge of the ETAS and VECTOR software like Inca and Canape’.
Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, as well as a high affinity for tracking supplier and delivering first-quality products to the customer.
Strong communication skills with high fluency in English both written and verbal.
Excellent problem-solving skills for complex automotive powertrain & chassis control systems
