IDIBELL is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP)
IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.
IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona. It is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona (HUBc) and Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA).

About the Program
The Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP) was formed in 2019 answering the needs of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and IDIBELL for a unique program covering the genomic cancer research, bioinformatics knowledge and resources to support the institute in oncological data handling, analysis and research.
By applying state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools and analysis, the program reaches their main obejectives in cancer prevention and early detection of cancer.
The program is divided in three subunits : Bioinformatics for Precision Oncology (B4PO), Oncology Outcomes and Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit (UBS).

About the role
We are seeking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences in the microbiome field. The successful applicant will work under a new project funded by La Marató TV3 and in collaboration with Fundació Privada Institut d’Investigació Oncològica VHIO.
The overall aim of the project is to investigate COVID-19 risks according to microbiota composition in a cancer patient population.
The project will analyze microbiota composition in cancer patients tested positive for COVID-19 by 16S tRNA gene sequencing of stool and saliva samples and compare with a non-COVID-19 cancer control population to identify SARS-CoV-2-specific traits.
Finally, the project will develop a predictive risk model of SARS-CoV-2 severity which integrates microbiome data with tumor subtype and patient’s demographic.
