    Overview of Position :

    DSST Public Schools seeks a teacher with a track-record of raising student achievement to join a team of educators dedicated to ensuring that students with disabilities are welcomed, known, and challenged to achieve their most ambitious post-secondary path.

    Our teachers are leaders who play an integral role in ensuring student success through supporting our school culture, developing and instructing a rigorous curriculum, and using data to drive their daily practice.

    DSST’s Network Special Education Support Teacher will play a critical role in ensuring all students with disabilities in the network receive high quality and legally compliant services as outlined in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

    At the direction of the Home Office Special Education Team, this Teacher will support DSST schools during times when they are in need of additional capacity and / or expertise on their school-based Special Education Team.

    Like all Special Education Teachers at DSST, the Network Special Education Support Teacher will serve students from all eligibility categories.

    This position may include teaching literacy, math, language skills, behavioral skills, daily living skills, and / or adaptive skills at both the Middle School and High School levels.

    Our teachers provide instruction at the large group, small group and individual level, and collaborate with general education staff for successful inclusion of students.

    Special Education Teachers also conduct evaluations, create and implement IEPs, monitor progress towards students’ goals, and communicate with families and related service providers.

    Because of the unique nature of this role, we are seeking a certified Special Education Teacher who is flexible and has strong skills in communicating and building relationships with adults and students.

    Essential Functions :

    Overview

    Demonstrate relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of studentsTake holistic accountability for student and school success- taking ownership of each student’s academic success or failure, as well as the legal compliance and achievement of the school’s Special Education goalsLive and model the network’s core values with colleagues, students, parents and the larger communityCollaborate with the Home Office Special Services Team, as well as multiple school based teams.

    Classroom Teaching and Special Education Case Management

    At the direction of the Home Office Special Education Team, be assigned to schools throughout the DSST network in order to ensure all Special Education services are successfully implemented when schools are in need of additional capacity and / or expertise on their Special Education Team.

    Assignment to a school could be for short (a week) or long (several months, or remainder of year) periods of time and could require supporting multiple schools throughout the course of a week.

    Support of schools may include, but is not limited to the following : Providing specialized instruction and service minutes to students in alignment with their IEPsCreating and implementing IEPs and evaluationsProgress monitoring of IEP goalsServing as a member of the school’s Special Education Team (attending team meetings, abiding by team expectations, etc.

    Supporting Special Education Coordinators in leading the team to design and implement compliant and timely IEPs and evaluationsOther supports as deemed necessarySpend, on average, 4 to 5 days per week in the school setting

    Communication and Relationship Building

    While at a school setting, report to and communicate with the school-based Special Education Admin for direction on priorities, time management, progress of students and case management, etc.

    Build relationships with members of the school leadership and Special Education Team at schoolsCommunicate with General Education Teachers, other Special Education Teachers and school leaders about schedules and priorities, student needs and progress, etc.

    Communicate regularly with the Home Office Special Services TeamAs needed, communicate with families about student needs and progressCollaborate with school based Special Education Admin and Senior Managers of Special Education to create and implement time bound school support project plans prior to an in school assignment.

    Home Office Team Member (when / if not assigned to a school location)

    Participate actively as a member of the Home Office Special Services Team; attend weekly Special Services Team and Special Education Team meetings as well as key Home Office culture events (e.

    g., annual retreat, etc.) Participate actively during Home Office Special Education Team meetingsReport to and receive coaching and support from Sr.

    Manager of Special EducationSupport Home Office Special Education Team in creating and delivering professional development to Special Education teachers when not working directly to support a schoolSupport Home Office Special Education Team in monitoring Special Education compliance across campuses when not directly supporting a school

    Job Requirements :

    Strong candidates for the Network Special Education Support Teacher role should have a demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to a changing work environment, to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

    This role will follow the typical ten month DSST teacher calendar.

    Candidates are required to have a Bachelor's Degree.Applicants for Special Education teaching positions must meet the following requirements :
