Purpose : The Product Engineer is responsible for designing, sustaining and issue resolution of electronics for watt hour Meters.
This role will be focused on developing, industrializing and lifecycle supporting the next generation of smart meters for global market.
A variety of country and utility requirements will be encountered and a continual set of challenging engineering tasks will be encountered as these requirements are finalized and projects to serve these different markets are launched.
Essential Functions :
Perform architectural design for products, evaluate alternate solution for new product and clearly define and guide team for technical clarity in the product development.
Perform design to cost analysis and tradeoffs.
Board-level RF / analog design, analysis, and test. Design RF and analog PWB / PCBs using Altium.
Perform circuit design for manufacturability, reliability and maintainability.
Perform Failure Mode Effect Analysis on components, designs, and products.
Perform reliability analysis and ensure design meets reliability targets.
Create and review functional / performance / compliance test plans and procedures to ensure adherence to requirements.
Create manufacturing documentation such as BOMs, change orders, control records, and manufacturing test specifications.
Support the sourcing, manufacturing, and validation teams during prototype and validation activities.
In collaboration with the Technical Leader, support the implementation of the manufacturing tests in the contract manufacturer.
During the Life Cycle of the designed product, perform Root Cause Analysis of non-conformances, then define, schedule and execute Corrective and Protective Actions.
In collaboration with firmware and validation teams, management of changes to the design of the product during its Life Cycle.
Support other areas (Sourcing, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality Engineering, and Technical Support) during the Life Cycle of the product.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering.
Minimum of six years of experience in electronics design.
Communications hardware design experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in working with PLM, PDM and ERP systems.
Experienced in industrialization and Life Cycle support of high volume electronic products.
Good understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (EMC, Electrical safety, CE, RoHS and other in-country regulations test requirements).
RF design : Zigbee, GPRS / GSM, 802.15.4, Wi-Fi.
Powerline : PLC (Prime, SFSK, G3), IEEE 1901.2, Home Plug AV / GreenPhy.
Schematic and layout package (Altium preferred).
Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, RF Generator.
Meters, AMI, electric power industry, or communications domain experience.
Strong interpersonal skills, tenacity and patience to develop long-term customer relationships.
Organized; ability to multi-task and stay organized.
High energy, self-starter, with a proven track record in delivering results
Strong critical thinking / problem solving skills.
Green Belt Certified.
