Essential Responsibilities
Development and enhancement of wind turbine and SCADA controls technologies, covering functional requirements definition, flow down, preliminary design development and documentation
As part of the broader control system design, interface with the turbine controls team to incorporate functional requirements into the controller design
Investigate controls and SCADA issues, participate in identifying and implementing improvements in control strategies
As a member of the controls team, participate in conceptual, detailed design, implementation and validation of the controls features
Contribute to the definition and documentation of turbine operation. This includes creating the foundation on which controls architecture and approach can be modified to meet project and product goals
Interface with SCADA product team and incorporate wind turbine and wind farm requirements into the design, as part of control system design
Role Summary / Purpose
Design & enhancement of wind turbine control systems, coordinating with teams within Renewable engineering and Services on project needs.
Responsible for requirements flow down leading to design, implementation and validation of control and SCADA systems. The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to optimize turbine and sub-system operation.
Qualifications / Requirements
Degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University or equivalent knowledge or experience
Experience in design and / or modeling of controls systems
Experience with new controls algorithm development, implementation and validation techniques : Software in the Loop (SIL), Hardware in the Loop (HIL)
Knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI) model and data transmission and communication
Industry knowledge of IP address management Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols
Knowledge of programming languages including C, C++
Working knowledge of relational databases and data modeling
Basic understanding of Operating systems (Windows and Linux)
Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Effective problem identification and solution skills
Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
Willingness to travel occasionally

Desired Characteristics
Experience with real time controls design or modeling
Knowledge of security system design
Experience with GE’s MarkVIe or similar PLC’s
Proficiency in software requirements definition, flow-down and design
Experience in wind industry with a focus on plant controls systems
Proficient in Matlab / Simulink for the design and validation of controls systems
Familiarity and practical experience with agile methodologies
Strong analytical approach to problem solving
Strong written communication skills
