Research area or group : Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group
Description of Group / Project :
The Phononic and Photonic Nanostructure Group ( ) carries out research in the general area of nanophononics, which includes nano-scale thermal transport, phononic crystals, thermoelectricity, acousto-metamaterials and topological bosonics.
The group is 14-strong and additionally involves several undergraduate project and visiting students.
The group participates in several European projects and has acquired national and regional research funding for phononics.
The position is meant to support the laboratory activities of the whole group.
Main Tasks and responsibilities :
This position is to carry out work in the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group headed by Prof Sotomayor Torres, in order to support researchers of the P2N group in their laboratory activities and to undertake and or organize equipment, its maintenance and upgrades.
At present the laboratory equipment includes Class IV lasers, high-resolution spectrometers for Raman and Brillouin scattering, cryogenic equipment, opto-mechanical and pump-and-probe equipment, electronic equipment, scanning probes, nanoimprint and self-assembly kits, among others.
Skills / Qualifications
PhD in Physics or related disciplines.
A minimum of three years experience in experimental research covering at least three of : structural characterization, electronic and or thermal properties determination, scanning probe methods, optical spectroscopy characterization, all applied to nanostructures, as well as advanced nanofabrication.
Knowledge of English and Spanish are essential (Catalan language skills while desirable are not essential).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and excellent organizational experience and capabilities.
Very good verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in English (spoken, written and reading comprehension), pedagogical approach to team work, eagerness to document procedures and monitoring the upholding of safety and IT good practices.
Furthermore, supervision of master students and or undergraduate students, ability to work in an international team are essential.
