The Data Science Manager will be responsible for the Data as a Service strategy and roadmap for this new venture of the wefox Group.

As one of our first hires in 2020, they will be crucial to the success of the new venture and will play a key role in building and scaling the team.

Their key responsibilities will include :

  • Take on a strategic role to help us grow into a robust, scalable multi-national company operating multiple business models and turn our data into a competitive advantage.
  • Lead development of data strategy for the new venture in a way that enables the venture to offer data as a service.
  • Lead the set-up of data systems to ensure that they are structured optimally from the get-go including structures around compliance and security.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate advanced statistical models and approaches.
  • Collaborate with product owners and engineers to identify, prioritise and execute on opportunities to translate large sets of data into new solutions for customers.
  • Recruit, retain and develop teams of data scientists and engineers delivering innovative, reproducible machine learning and data workflows which lead to highly impactful applications of data science to business problems.
  • Your skills :

  • An MS in a quantitative scientific discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Eng, Natural Sciences, Data Science, Computational Statistics).
  • At least 7 years of relevant, post-graduate work experience in a Data Science role in a fast paced, product-oriented environment.
  • Have a deep understanding of and experience working with data as a product.
  • Experience in strategy development and strategic leadership.
  • Proven track record in establishing the foundation for data structure, architecture, security, and compliance.
  • Expert knowledge of :

  • A scientific computing language (such as R or Python);
  • SQL and RDBMS concepts;
  • Machine learning techniques and algorithms (such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Forests of Decision Trees, Online Learning).
  • Common data science toolkits (such as DataRobot, R, Weka, NumPy, Spark ML).
  • Experience developing and deploying data science and machine learning solutions in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, including the ability to work autonomously when needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with internal and external audiences.
  • Previous experience working in an early stage SaaS and insurance company is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in German and / or Spanish is a plus.
