The Role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Kantox software engineering team in Barcelona! We work mainly with Ruby, Elixir, Java, R, Python, Docker, Ember.

JS and RabbitMQ. You will work with a self-motivated multi-disciplinary multi-cultural team that views software development as an extreme team sport.

Your responsibilities will be as heavy as you can possibly carry.

If you have Engineering Management experience you know that the responsibilities do not fit into a bullet point list. However, some of the most prominent areas of work are :

  • Making sure all developers have everything they need, from hardware and morale to perfectionism and career path.
  • Finding areas with poor communication and rewiring them.
  • Building and enacting workflows in a way that reduces surprises to zero.
  • Building and fostering corporate culture towards desired behaviour.
  • Carefully setting up and modifying incentives so that they bring maximum value.
  • Identifying problems, analysing and participating in their permanent resolution.
  • Questioning everything and constantly with the aim to revise to the better.
  • Requirements

  • Previous commercial experience of high-level programming, preferably in different languages.
  • Previous commercial experience in a leadership position with demonstrable results.
  • Conceptual knowledge of CSS, JS, AWS, TDD, Jira, Agile, Docker, Data Science, QA, contract testing, concurrency and a long et cetera.
  • Team player with strong opinions capable of building consensus for the causes that they are passionate about and equally capable of accepting the direction once a decision has been taken.
  • Healthy paranoia regarding all those things that can possibly break, especially people.
  • Ability to take a complex feature and explain it to a dog with satisfactory results.
  • Self-driven, autonomous personality capable of moving ahead in the agreed direction with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to broker multiple high-value projects with colliding priorities, understanding who to ask to be informed and who to inform.
  • Fundamentalist fervour in attention to detail.
  • Expected Skills & Experience
