  • About the Team

    The GSMA Mobile World Congress is the mobile industry’s premier event where mobile leaders gather, collaborate and conduct business.

    The annual event provides the best platform for networking, new business opportunities and deal making.

    In 2018, Mobile World Congress hosted more than 107,000 visitors from 205 countries. Over 55 per cent of the attendees hold senior-

    level positions, including more than 7,700 CEOs, up from more than 6,100 in 2017. More than 2,400 companies showcased cutting-

    edge products and services across 120,000 net square metres of exhibition and hospitality space at Fira Gran Via, including the new South Village.

    More than 3,500 international media and industry analysts attended the event to report on the many significant industry announcements made at the Congress.

    Preliminary independent economic analysis indicates that this year’s Mobile World Congress will have contributed approximately €471 million and over 13,000 part-

    time jobs to the local economy.

    We have an exciting opportunity for a high-performing Event Director to lead our flagship event.     About the Role

    Event management : you will assist in the overall management of Mobile World Congress, working across functional areas to achieve the event’s financial and operational goals.

    This includes leading regular project meetings, creation of different strategic and operational working groups and coordination of key programs within the event.

    Commercial negotiation : you will negotiate contracts and manage major suppliers from specification development, tender process & supplier selection, preparation of service level agreements (SLAs) and contracts to final implementation of agreed service on site.

    This relates to opportunities for the MWC which are not specific to other functional areas or which can be more efficiently managed from the Barcelona office than elsewhere

    Financial Support : you will manage the P / L working closely with the Head of Events Europe, including supervision of monthly forecast reporting (working with your finance business partner) and a monthly status report of different projects / programs.

    You will also be expected to identify creative commercial solutions in order to grow the event.

    Business development : you will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities with individuals, companies and public institutions in Barcelona with a view to generating additional revenue and strengthening local relationships.

    Business operations : You will work closely with our internal teams including Sales, Content, Operations and Customer Care in order to facilitate efficient and effective operations and world-

    class customer service. You will manage a team of 5 (with 3 direct reports) and will facilitate effective collaboration across departments.

    About You

    You are a seasoned Event Director and will likely come from a B2B events background, either at a top-tier events company or agency.

    You demonstrate an exceptional understanding of all facets of large-scale events and the broader events industry,

    You evidence a clear track record of managing and growing successful events. You are used to managing multi-million Euro P&Ls and have an exceptional commercial ability.

    You are skilled in business development and are highly experienced in generating commercial partnerships at the highest levels.

    You are a great networker and relationship builder. You have ideally worked with public institutions.

    You are a very strong people manager, leading by example and are not afraid to tackle operational issues. You are skilled at managing teams and relationships remotely and demonstrate a highly collaborative attitude.

    You have strong stakeholder management skills. You can demonstrate a record of success and delivering in a complex, challenging environment with internal and external stakeholders.
