Global Payroll Operations is a multi disciplinary practice that provides an integrated approach to the administration, regulatory and human aspects of employee care and compensation.

The Global Payroll Operations Team are based in the EMEIA Tax Centre (ETC). The ETC operates as a virtual hub of highly specialized professionals from across EMEIA with a primary focus of expanding EY’s service capability.

The ETC offers increased access to leading edge thinking and truly borderless service for our clients and is designed to support, complement and enhance the efforts of our pursuit and client service activities.

We are now seeking a Director to lead our GCR Global Payroll Operate Client Solutions team. The team role is international, frequent travel will be required, and team members are based in London.

Preferred locations are London, Barcelona or Frankfurt. This will be a demanding position where the individual must be self driven and able to work on their own initiative and in a virtual setting.

The role and experience required is described below.

Job purpose

The job holder will work in the client solutions part of the wider Global Payroll Operate team gathering requirements for bespoke client solutions and managing their implementation, and delivering the technology solutions to clients that underpin EY’s Global Payroll Operate offering.

Driving and ensuring that all technology obligations are being fulfilled to time, cost and quality in client engagements.

The role is varied and they will manage all aspects of the technology deliveries, working with internal and external personnel around the globe, including external clients, vendors, EY payroll practitioners, IT etc, being a key contact in their field of expertise for these personnel.

In addition, they will support business development by working on key proposals, coordinating the preparation of documentation and fees, and presenting them to new clients.

Global Payroll Operate Client Solutions

1. Business Development and Proposal Assistance

  • Assisting with the technology aspects of Payroll Operate proposals including RFI / P (Requests for Information / Proposals), pricing, pitches, technology demonstrations, oral presentations etc.
  • Participating and contributing to client meetings including providing payroll technology proposal information, for clients of all sizes
  • Clearly communicating, demonstrating, explaining and articulating the technical details of Global Payroll Operate solutions to technical and non technical external clients with the appropriate level of detail and ensuring clients understand the functionality provided and quality assurance process
  • 2. Client Transition and Payroll Operate Technology Delivery

  • Collaborate with the Payroll Operate Transition Team to on board the Global technology elements of Payroll Operate delivery for Client engagements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (internal and client) ensuring effective communication.
  • Provide guidance and support to peers, colleagues and clients on payroll technology related issues.
  • Proactively managing Payroll Operate technology delivery risk through best practice tools, and implementation of escalation routes.
  • Identify opportunities for additional EY services and or extensions to EY Payroll Operate services.
  • 3. Product Owner

    Technology Product Owner role, managing a combination of project initiatives and BAU activities, including :

  • Facilitate, agree and document roadmap requirements with stakeholders to ensure Payroll technology roadmap alignment.
  • Liaison with Global Technology leader, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Testing and development teams
  • Assist in the delivery of new technologies, enhancement and maintenance releases to existing technologies, including
  • 1. Gathering and assessment of Global requirements.

    2. Scoping tool enhancements with stakeholders, network representatives, IT, vendors, Global, Area, GCR Enablement & Execution Team (GEET), Champions etc.

    3. Management and facilitation of requirement workshops

    4. Documenting and reviewing specifics of business requirements.

    5. Plan and deliver change management activities, including Business training and communication of new functionality.

    6. Deliver training updates & course materials.

    7. Managing vendors, including (1) aligning priorities to ensure focus on most critical elements and (2) business requirements are clearly articulated (3) Review of vendor documentation (4) Review of vendor delivery in terms of time, cost and quality against agreed requirements, including SOWs (Statements Of Works) and CRs (Change Requests)

    8. Modelling the data integration between Payroll, EY and client solutions ensuring that desired flow of information will be successful.

  • Effective issue management and appropriate escalation.
  • Acting as the key’ operational technology contact for internal EY Payroll Operate Global and Area network representatives, driving the focus of the members of these networks and in turn reporting upwards.
  • Supporting Payroll Operate Leadership team deliveries, for critical path items.
  • Detailed review and testing of vendor delivery against agreed requirements.
  • Plan and manage User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • 4. Quality and Team Operations

  • Manage Fee billing against agreements, review budgets and resourcing requirements on a regular basis. Managing expected realisation percentage (ERP)
  • Liaise with and proactively seek the advice of the Global and Tax QRM and legal teams in the resolution of EY specific issues.
  • Support engagement Partner on performance against budgets, helping to resolve issues through management of resourcing, KPI’s and scope.
  • Supporting the engagement Partner with QRM, overseeing implementation and adherence to agreed processes, procedures and timetables.
  • Coaching other members of the team on aspects of Payroll technology delivery. Helping team members contribute more by giving them balanced and constructive feedback in a timely manner.

    Sharing successful methods / tools with other team members. Helping to identify training needs of the group to meet client delivery requirements.

  • Sharing knowledge and experience of payroll technology delivery challenges through appropriate forums, eg Payroll meetings, GCR team meetings etc.
  • Develop strategic solutions with the team to enhance Payroll Operate offerings, improve profitability and promote knowledge sharing of Payroll practices and solutions across the firm

    Experience, Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Strong management, interpersonal, excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to forge, maintain and leverage strong relationships with external clients, vendors, Business, EY Stakeholders etc.
  • Excellent presentation skills and able to confidently position a technology solution to the audience.
  • Able to deliver communications that engage a range of audiences and respond to their questions and concerns with the appropriate level of technical detail (eg clients, Tax Quality, IT, vendors, Payroll Practitioners, senior stakeholders etc).
  • Maintain relationships and networks for distributing key support, operational and project messages.
  • Strong reporting summarisation skills.
  • Displays excellent project management, Business Analysis and technology skills.
  • Previous experience managing Global and / or Area Technology initiatives.
  • Experience of working in virtual cross-cultural, cross border multimodal teams
  • Change management and implementation activities, e.g. migration planning ensuring data preparation readiness, running pilots and UATs and co delivering Business Train the Trainer sessions.
  • Planning and preparation of business training materials
  • Effective interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to facilitate design workshops with senior participants.
  • Ability to review and challenge complex technology solution design.
  • Demonstrate business acumen & ensure knowledge of EY’s processes.
  • Experience and understanding of EY and external vendor software development methodology.
  • Experience of incident management and ability to manage root cause analysis investigations.
  • Effective issue management and appropriate escalation.
  • Ability to devise flexible approaches to resolve technology and process issues, with a tenacious approach to issue resolution / task completion.
