Purpose of the role :
This role involves the definition of the roadmap, performance indexes and strategies for McLaren active systems affecting vehicle dynamics.
You will coordinate the development of different active systems, ensuring that McLaren DNA is maintained across the fleet.
You will define, together with the Controls team, the functional requirements of these systems and will be responsible for the functional Sign-Off.
You will work together with the project budget owners for defining the development plans and requirements
Principal accountabilities :
Develop high level control strategies together with CAE and Controls team
Defining attribute targets based on Marketing and vehicle roadmaps
Defining and managing development plan with Vehicle Development team to ensure all systems achieve sign off at the appropriate point in the program
Support Controls team in managing functional development plan
Support Controls team in defining functional safety requirements
Perform functional safety evaluation on real vehicle
Model and simulate virtual vehicle to define software functionalities and ensure that expected performance is in line with dynamics attribute targets
Define and carry out vehicle testing plan to tune / calibrate active systems on the vehicle
Understand and resolve issues that arise during development process
Tracking and reporting on development status
Knowledge, skills & experience :
Excellent knowledge of vehicle dynamics
Excellent knowledge of high level control system design and tuning
Proven experience in calibrating at least two of the following systems (ESP, Traction Control, EPS, All Wheel Drive, Rear Wheel Steer, Camber Control, Electronic Differential, Torque Vectoring, Semi-
Active Dampers, Active Aerodynamics)
Excellent knowledge of chassis hardware systems (steering, suspension, tyres)
Excellent driving skills for high performance vehicle
Competent user of Matlab, Simulink and ADAMS car
Good skills in managing testing plan
Good knowledge of validation, verification and testing process
Good knowledge of data logging and calibration systems
Good knowledge of objective manoeuvre driving and subjective vehicle evaluation
Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree
PHD in Mechanical Engineering advantageous
